With the first phase of National Education Policy being implemented, students pursuing higher education can now exit the course midway carrying a certificate for the time they spent, come back after a stipulated time and continue with the mother course. The NEP has provided students the facility of multiple entries and exits by following some criterion. The students can utilise the time period between the exit and entry to do a job, or even to do some other course. The Maharashtra Government is implementing NEP aggressively. State Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil convened a meeting where he asked the universities to start the implementation process by April 30, 2023. The Ministry had constituted a steering committee that submitted the report recommending certain changes in the guidelines of NEP. The guidelines focus on the syllabus and credit system. Students may also undertake a fourth year of study under the new curriculum, after which a UG Degree with Honours / Research will be suitably granted. There will be a 4-year degree programme from academic year 2023-24 in Arts, Commerce, Science stream. Students, opting for exits at any level, will have the option to re-enter the programme from where they had left off, in the same or in a different higher education institution within three years of exit and complete the degree programme within the stipulated maximum period of seven years from the date of admission to first year UG. Re-entry at various levels for lateral entrants in academic programmes shall be based on the earned and valid credits as-deposited and accumulated in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) through Registered Higher Education Institutions (RHEI) and proficiency test records.
