Nagpur once again witnessed rains with hail in many parts. The hailstones reportedly caused damage to some vehicles, which made it risky and difficult for commuters. Dark clouds around 4 pm was immediately followed by rain with thunderstorm. Hailstones were witnessed in Manewada, Nandanvan, Narendra Nagar, Dighori and a few other areas during thundershowers. Due to thunderstorm, uprooting of trees was reported in some parts of the city and power supply also got disrupted in some areas. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert on April 25, predicting the possibility of light and moderate rains along with gales, lightning and hail at some places. There is a chance of rain again between April 26 and 28 and yellow alert has been announced for the city.
On Tuesday, the weather department issued a fresh orange alert for entire Vidarbha on April 26. The warning stated, “Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over Akola, Buldana, Gadchiroli, Washim, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal.” It also mentioned that hail was likely at isolated places over Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Washim, and Yavatmal districts of Vidarbha on April 26. On April 20, Nagpur witnessed heavy rains with gusty winds and hail that uprooted many trees in all over the city. Due to the rains, one person was also killed due to collapse of a compound wall in Byramji Town area. Keeping the previous rains in mind, the civic body issued toll free number of its Fire and Emergency Services to avoid any incident during rains and thunderstorm.
On Tuesday, Nagpur reported the highest 11.8 mm rainfall in all over Vidarbha. Wardha (8 mm) and Amravati (3 mm) also recorded light rains whereas other parts of Vidarbha were dry but due to cloudy weather the maximum temperature in all districts was recorded below 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The minimum temperature in every districts of Vidarbha was also recorded below 24 degrees.
