Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (MPSLSA) on Tuesday organised a special health check-up camp at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Central Jail. Justice Vivek Agarwal, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, inaugurated the camp under the guidance of Justice Ravi Malimath, Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court and Justice Sheel Nagu, Administrative Judge and Executive Chairman MPSLSA.
Other Central Jails, including Bhopal, Satna, Rewa, Narmadapuram, Sagar and Narsinghpur, which come under the jurisdiction of Madhya Pradesh High Court Principal Bench Jabalpur participated in the inauguration programme through video conferencing. During the camp, medical experts from Medical College and Hospital and District Hospital examined the Jail inmates. Besides, legal aid and advice were provided to about 66 prisoners in Central Jail Jabalpur. A team of 22 doctors conducted health check up of total 453 prisoners includes 384 men, 69 women and 4 others including Children. As many as 37 prisoners were suffering from HIV, 3 from cancer and 10 Tuberculosis.
During the camp, the guests expressed that the skill development training program which is to be conducted in the Central Jail Jabalpur for the prisoners will be helpful in getting them employment according to their skills after their release from jail. Later, Justice Vivek Agarwal inspected the Jail premises. He visited the kitchen and tested the quality of food prepared for the prisoners.
Later, a legal aid camp was also organized in the Central Jail, in which the prisoners were provided with necessary legal aid and advice. For keeping the prisoners informed about the status of their cases duties of panel advocates was also made. Those also present on the occasion Member Secretary MPSLSA Rajeev Karmahe, Principal District Judge Alok Awasthi, Mohit Dewan, Manoj Kumar Singh, CMHO Ratnesh Kuraria, Deputy Jail Superintendent Madan Kamlesh, Dr. Lakshman Shah and others.
