historic Sangram Sagar pond of Gondwana era was inaugurated after its beautification and development of civic amenities in a graceful ceremony, on Wednesday. Member of Parliament, Rakesh Singh, accompanied by MLA, Cantt, Ashok Rohani and other senior public representatives inaugurated the Sangram Sagar and Cafeteria by cutting ribbons and lighting earthen lamps at the bank of pond. The entire premises illuminated with thousands of earthen lamps lit by the dignitaries.
Addressing the programme, MP, Rakesh Singh said that Sangram Sagar is the heritage of Rani Durgawati and Raja Sangram’s era and it is a matter of pride for him for its beautification and development of basic amenities for convenience of visitors. He added that residents of Jabalpur are already blessed with their birth at the bank of holy river Narmada and having rich water bodies. Even after having water abundance, there is an urgent need to ensure
water conservation following the depleting ground water level. Jabalpur is known for 52 ponds including Sangram Sagar which were constructed by Gondwana emperors. During British era, Sangram Sagar was termed as natural air-conditioner of Jabalpur which is surrounded with hills and forest. MP, Singh has termed the Sangram Sagar as new tourism destination in the city and included in Mega Tourism Circuit for its desired development and tourism promotion. Sangram Sagar has been beautified and public amenities have been developed with the budget of Rs 1.52 crore under Mega Tourism Circuit including Rs 30 lakh from MP’s fund.
On the occasion, BJP City President, Prabhat Sahu, Rural President, Ranu Tiwari, State Secretary, Ashish Dubey, State Treasurer, Akhilesh Jain, former Mayors, Sadanand Godbole, Dr Swati Godbole, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, Chairperson, Rikunj Vij and a large numbers of party workers and eminent residents were present.
