The Department of Education, Government of Maharashtra, has given one last extension to the process of 25% admissions done under Right to Education Act (RTE). The process was to be end on Monday. Now parents have chance to confirm admissions of their wards till May 22, 2023.
The process of admissions to various schools began on April 13, 2023 and was to end on April 25, when it got extended to May 8. Because of poor response from parents in confirming admissions, the Department gave it another extension till May 15. In Nagpur, there are 653 schools having 6,577 seats. The department received 36,490 applications of which 6,513 students have been selected. Till now 3,589 students have been confirmed the admissions.
If one takes district-wise statistics into consideration, one would find except a few districts the response from the parents is not very good. In Akola of the selected 1,924 wards, 1317 confirmed the admissions. Similarly, in Amravati of 2,287 selected students, 1,366 confirmed, in Bhandara of the selected 763 candidates, 489 have confirmed. In Buldhana 1,573 confirmed of the selected 2,203 candidates. Of the selected 863 wards, 631 have confirmed their admissions in Gondia. In Wardha 742 of the 1,111, in Washim 487 of the selected 775 and in Yavatmal, 1,268 wards confirmed of the selected 1,917 students.
Sharad Gosavi, Director of Education (Primary) said, “The selection process is being conducted in a transparent manner so parents should not fall prey to any agents or institution.
The students selected under 25% quota will not get any step-motherly treatment. Schools have to take care that these students should not be deprived of education. The parents of the wards whose names are selected for the admission must have received the SMS to this effect. If parents have not received any SMS, they can check on official website. Secondly, if the name of child appears in list that does not mean the students would get admission in desired school.”
