The smell of varnish, paint and wood shavings is sure to hit your nose and announce the presence of sprawling timber market at Pul Bogda and Jinsi area while moving toward railway station. But this prominent market may soon become just a page in history very soon. There is a proposal to shift the timber market from the congested Jinsi area and Pul Bogda for the ongoing Metro project in the state capital. On Tuesday, Collector Asheesh Singh has asked to remove these shops in two months. BMC Commissioner KVS Chaudhary Kolsani will also issue a notice regarding this. Collector Singh held a meeting with the saw mill operators and representatives of timber merchants on Tuesday.
Everyone has been instructed to vacate the place within two months. Commissioner Kolsani and SDM Jameel Khan were also present in the meeting of saw machine operator and timber merchant.
Collector Singh said that the city needs space to organise and also for the Metro project. Along with keeping the city clean and safe, convenient traffic acts as oxygen for the city. You all are responsible citizens. For this, it is necessary that you also understand your responsibility and shift the business to the allotted place. The Collector said that in next two months they should vacate the place and take your saw machines and timber business to Agariya Chhapar where the furniture cluster is being built. It has been proposed to give space to all the timber merchants there. Singh assures that there will be no negligence and delay in this plan. The Collector has also instructed the municipal commissioner to start the process of vacating the place by issuing notices to all of them in a week. Strict action will be taken if the shifting is not done despite being served the notice.
