The Department of Education, Government of Maharashtra, has given further extension to the 25% admissions done under Right to Education Act (RTE). The process was to complete on Monday. Now, parents have chance to confirm admissions of their wards till May 15, 2023. The process of children taking admissions to various schools began on April 13, and was to end on April 25, but it got extended to May 8. Because of poor response from parents to confirm admissions, the Education Department has extended it further.
In Nagpur, there are 653 schools with a total of 6,577 seats. The department received applications from 36,490 students, of which 6,513 students have been selected. Till now 2,423 students have confirmed their admission.
According to district-wise statistics, except a few districts, the response from the parents is not very good. In Akola of the selected 1,924 wards, 1,249 confirmed admissions. Similarly, in Amravati of 2,287 selected students, 1,293 confirmed; in Bhandara, of the selected 763 candidates, 443 have confirmed; in Buldana 1,449 confirmed of the selected 2,203 candidates; in Chandrapur, of the 1,456 selected candidates, 720 have confirmed; in Gadchiroli, 260 wards have confirmed the admissions of the selected 433 ones. Of the selected 863 wards, 554 have confirmed their admissions in Gondia; in Wardha 668 of the 1,111; in Washim 442 of the selected 775; and in Yavatmal, 1,026 wards confirmed of the selected 1,917 students.
Sharad Gosavi, Director of Education (Primary) said, “The selection process is being conducted in a transparent manner so parents should not fall prey to any agents or institution. The students selected under 25% quota will not get any step-motherly treatment. Schools have to take care that these students should not be deprived of education. The parents of the wards whose names are selected for the admission must have received the SMS to this effect. If parents have not received any SMS, they can check on official website. Secondly, if the name of child appears in list that does not mean the students would get admission in desired school.”
