Drive to rid seized vehicles

Staff Reporter
Vehicles dumped in heaps, literally making the courtyards of police stations across the State a graveyard of abandoned vehicles, is a common sight in most of the places. But now the Police Department has decided to get rid of them.
Police stations across the State will be cleaned in one-and-a-half month. Junk and seized vehicles of police stations are being disposed through public auction. This special campaign began from June 1 and will continue till July 15. A guideline in this regard has been issued by Special DG CID to Zone ADGs, IGs, Range DIGs, Bhopal-Indore Police Commissioners and all district's Superintendents of Police. Guidelines have been issued recently by Director General of Police Sudhir Kumar Saxena, during a surprise inspection of a police station after he found that such seized vehicles were lying unclaimed in the police station premises over a long period of time. They not only eat away space on the premises of police stations, but are also an eyesore. A few vehicles that are seized from criminals would be handed over to their rightful owners after obtaining permission from court while rest unclaimed vehicles would be auctioned. The amount collected after auctioning these unclaimed vehicles would be deposited with the State’s treasury.
