THE fourth divisional conference of the Congress party was held at the Balbir Singh Juneja Stadium in Raipur. Kumari Selja, All India Congress Committee General Secretary and Chhattisgarh In-charge along with Dr Chandan Yadav and Joint Secretary Vijay Jangid were present at the conference along with all senior party leaders and Chief Minister Bhuesh Baghel. Speaking Selja expressed admiration for the resilience of the Congress party, highlighting that despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forming the government three times, the Congress party remained steadfast. She emphasised that the Congress party is the force of its workers, the defender of the tricolor, and the embodiment of India’s struggle. Selja acknowledged the hard work of the Congressmen and the formation of the Baghel-led government in 2018, which came to power with 68 seats and has since gained three more seats. Selja credited the progress and increased cultural pride in Chhattisgarh to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s leadership. She criticised the BJP for its divisive tactics during its 15-year rule, while asserting that the Congress party worked towards uniting all sections of society without discrimination. Selja declared that the Congress government had bolstered cultural heritage and claimed that the truth is on the side of the Congress party, instilling confidence in the party’s ability to regain power in Chhattisgarh. Selja accused the BJP of spreading corruption and employing agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax department to intimidate opponents.

She urged the public not to be swayed by attempts to confuse them and instead focus on the positive impact of the government’s schemes, which have brought happiness to the people. She mentioned the widespread recognition of Chhattisgarh’s efforts in purchasing forest produce and highlighted the government’s proactive response during the COVID19 pandemic, ensuring economic stability. Referring to alleged mismanagement of funds in the PM CARES Fund, Selja stressed the importance of unity among the party members and urged them to work diligently, reaching out to voters at the grassroots level. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel emphasised the importance of training party workers, as they represent the Congress party during interactions with the public and television debates. He stressed the need to effectively communicate the government’s schemes, ensuring that the benefits reach every citizen. Baghel highlighted the significance of each vote and encouraged party members to campaign based on the five years of Congress government’s accomplishments. Mohan Markam, State Congress President, recounted the unfulfilled promises made by the BJP during its governance in Chhattisgarh. He contrasted this with the Congress government’s commitment to fulfilling its 36 promises after being elected in 2018. Markam highlighted the successful loan waiver for farmers and the implementation of the support price of Rs. 2500 for paddy. He praised Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s dedication to the welfare of farmers, noting the increase in agricultural production and trade. Markam also emphasized the government’s efforts in job creation, removal of corruption, and overall satisfaction among various sections of society
