UNITED NATIONS,
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi will lead a unique yoga session on Wednesday in a historic celebration to commemorate the 9th International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters here that will see participation from top UN officials, envoys from across and the world and prominent individuals. Modi will be in New York on the first leg of his US visit at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Nine years after Prime Minister Modi first proposed from the United Nations General Assembly podium to mark International Yoga Day as an annual commemoration, the Indian leader will for the first time be at the UN Headquarters to lead the yoga session in a historic commemoration of the day.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj told PTI in an interview that the yoga celebration this year will be a very “unique occasion” because it was Prime Minister Modi who had given this vision and it was his leadership that ensured that June 21 every year is celebrated as International Yoga Day. Modi’s visit will further boost ties, says Renjen: INDIA and the US are “natural allies” and Modi’s visit is going to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations, a top Indian-American corporate leader said, noting that ties have been on an upward trajectory. The US is welcoming the Prime Minister of India with “open arms” and this State Visit is “very significant”, Deloitte Global CEO Emeritus Punit Renjen told PTI in an interview. Renjen, who had served as chief executive officer (CEO) of Deloitte Global from 2015 to 2022, and retired on December 31 last year, also said all components of the visit, from Modi’s address to the Joint Session of the US Congress to the State Dinner are “remarkable”.

Thanedar to escort PM to his historic joint address to US Congress: INDIAN-AMERICAN Congressman Shri Thanedar would be escorting Modi to his historic joint address to the US Congress on June 22. The first-time Democratic Congressman, who represents the 13th Congressional District of Michigan, has also been invited by President Joe Biden for the White House State Dinner hosted in honour of PM Modi on the same day. It is the second time that Modi is addressing the joint session of the US Congress, a first for any Indian Prime Minister.
