GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation (KPWF) are organising 16th GH Raisoni Memorial International Rating Nagpur Chess Festival from June 25 to July 2 at GHRIET, Shraddha Park, Hingna-Wadi Link Road, MIDC, Nagpur.
The tournament is recognised by various global, national, state and district level bodies like World Chess Federation (FIDE), Sports Authority of India, All India Chess Federation (AICF), Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA) and Chess Association Nagpur (CAN). The event will conducted in all three formats of chess (Standard, Rapid and Blitz).
KPWF has won the bid for five International Rating tournaments. Three chess tournaments out of five will be the part of widely celebrated GH Raisoni Memorial Nagpur Chess Festival and this will provide a huge opportunity for players across India to get International rating. As many as 211 players in Standard, 220 players in Rapid and 173 players in Blitz coming from Hong Kong, United States of America, Dubai, Bahrain and all over the India have already confirmed their entries for the mega event. Inauguration ceremony will take place on June 25 at 09:00 am and first round will start at 10:00 am. Rapid tournament will start on July 1, blitz tournament on July 2 and will be followed by prize distribution ceremony. Prize fund of the event is Rs 4,51,000.
Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, KPWF and Organising Chairman, promised to make the event bigger and better. “We are committed to raise the bar while constantly improving the playing conditions for our players. In spite of the rising logistical challenges, we will continue to make value additions in making this event a huge success,” he said. Dr Vivek Kapur, Director of GHRIET remarked, “This is a proud moment for GHRIET as some of the best brains across the globe will compete in this event.” Girish Vyas, ex-MLC & Vice-President, MCA; SS Soman (Member of MCA Observer Committee & Organising Committee), Dr Mrinalini Naik, Project Head and Amit Gandhare of Raisoni Group are extending their co-operation for the tournament.
