BUNDLES of cotton thread, cotton bales, machines, denim fabric for jeans and other material, worth over Rs seven crore were gutted in a major fire that broke out in the godown of Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Ltd’s Denim Division at Nagardhan. The spot is about 10 kilometre from Ramtek on Mouda Road. The incident occurred on Thursday morning
Fire broke out at the godown around 10 am. Some workers noticed thick smoke emanating from inside the godown and informed their superiors. Soon after receiving information, Mill Manager Bhujang Thorat rushed to the godown. As the workers made futile attempts to douse the flames using fire extinguishers, Thorat contacted officers of Ramtek Police, Nagar Parishad, Ultra-Tech Cement Company, Chacher, NTPC, Mouda and Kamptee Municipal Council and requested them to send fire tenders.
  
Firefighters rushed to the spot along with fire engines as the inferno was assuming dangerous proposition. Before the fire fighters could reach the spot, fire engulfed the entire godown that was stuffed with cotton bales. After combating the inferno for nearly four hours, they succeeded in extinguishing the fire completely. No casualty was reported. Mill Manager Thorat informed that cotton threat bundles, cotton bales, denim fabric, a new machine and other material worth crores of rupees were devastated. PI Hridayanaraayn Yadav, PSI Kartik Sontakke and others started the probe to ascertain the cause behind the fire.
