RCOEM, YCCE, GHRCE get empowered autonomy

Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM), Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE) and G H Raisoni College of Engineering got the status of Empowered Autonomy. They are the first colleges affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) to receive such status. These colleges have been conferred with the new status on the recommendation by the Academic Council, and Management Council. It will now be easier for these empowered autonomous colleges to award combined university and college degrees, start new certificate, diploma, degree and post-graduate courses. At the same time, the autonomous colleges will get freedom for ancillary matters such as starting PhD courses, fee structure of the courses with the approval of the university. Empowered autonomous colleges will also have the power to redesign the courses running in the autonomous colleges, change the names of the courses as per the nomenclature of the University Grants Commission, prescribe the method of evaluation, announce the results, award the mark sheet.
 
Pursuant to the provision of Empowered Autonomous Colleges mentioned in Section 123 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, uniform regulations were issued by the Government of Maharashtra through the notification dated May 22, 2023, laying down the standards and procedures for granting the status of Empowered Autonomous Colleges to Autonomous Colleges. Accordingly, RTMNU issued a circular and invited applications from autonomous colleges for the status of empowered autonomous college. A total of 3 applications received by the university. Those were duly scrutinized and after the applications of all the three autonomous colleges were qualified, actual visits were made to the college. All eligible applications are accepted by the Management Council on the recommendation by the Academic Council.
 
The three colleges namely RCOEM, YCCE, GHRCE have achieved excellence and high level status are being granted the status of Empowered Autonomous College for the next ten years from the academic year 2023-24. “This is an important step taken by RTMNU towards academic autonomy,” expressed Dr Subhash Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor, RTMNU.
