Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhakrishnan B relinquished his chair at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday. He is proceeding on study leave to USA as Central Government has cleared application for high studies in Harvard University. Radhakrishnan is going to be part of Mason programme that runs for nearly a year.
District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar has been asked to take additional charge of NMC by the State Government. The name of Radhakrishnan's successor is yet to be finalised and within next few days Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to take a call. He is on a day’s visit to city on Saturday, and local party leaders are likely to hold confabulations with him on the next Municipal Commissioner and Administrator.
Radhakrishnan had a tenure of about two and half years and during that, he oversaw the tough Covid-19 period. He came to NMC when the administration and political wing were at loggerheads over Covid-19 strategy. The Municipal Commissioner was also one of the key player in handling arrangement for C-20 Inception Meet held in city during March. During his two and half years tenure, Radhakrishnan tried to streamline the implementation of development projects. He tried to balance the expectations of citizens vis-a-vis launching big ticket projects.
