Hundreds of Cong workers try to gherao MLA Rohani’s office

To vent ire against the neglect and backwardness of areas under Cantt Assembly over the past 30 years, hundreds of Congress leaders and workers, on Sunday tried to gherao local MLA Ashok Rohani’s office in Ranjhi. On the call of City Congress Committee, party workers gathered at Ranjhi Vehicle crossing and attempted to march towards the MLA’s office. However, the police stopped them at Darshan Crossing. Despite, some Congress workers attempted to breach the barricades set up by the police to reach Rohani’s office, but the heavy police presence prevented them and the protest took place at Darshan Crossing only.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Congress leaders expressed their concerns about neglect and discrimination faced by the people of Cantt Assembly. They said despite the MLA belonging to one family is serving for many years, BJP MP is serving people for 18 years, the Cantt Assembly areas are still remains underdeveloped. Basic necessities like drinking water continue to be a major issue. Even today, people are forced to stand in long queues for water. Several areas and colonies in the Assembly are still suffering from waterlogging. Congress leaders stated that thousands of families have been wandering since 1975 for government land allocations. Unemployment and struggle for employment plague thousands of youth and the crime rate in Jabalpur, especially in the Cantt. area, is at its peak.
 
The Bagicha area of the Cantt., with a population of 24,000 residents, is facing the crisis of displacement, but the MLA remains silent. People are struggling to obtain ration cards, BPL cards and caste certificates. The Cantonment area has become a center of online gambling under the protection of responsible politicians. President, City Congress Committee, Jagat Bahadur Singh led the protest.
