Collector appeals nurses to call off strike, refuse to budge

 

 

Taking a serious stand on the nurses’ strike being staged on the call of Nurses Officer Association for three days, Collector Saurabh Kumar Suman visited Government Seth Govinddas District Hospital (Victoria) to meet the nurses on Wednesday. Observing patients’ healthcare needs, Collector Suman appealed striking nurses to call-off their strike and go back to works. But nurses bluntly denied appeal to end their strike until all their demands are fulfilled. According to the nurses, as the strike is staged at the State-level, hence the higher authorities would take any decision on the fate of strike.

 

As the strike started affecting the healthcare activities in the district. As the PG doctors have handled the situation at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital to some extent but the services at the District Hospital and Rani Durgavati Hospital, are deteriorated with every passing day. Left with no option, the patients are being referred from both the hospitals to Jabalpur Medical College in emergency cases. Around 295 nurses are there in Jabalpur district who are associated with the Nurses Officer Association which called the strike for it’s 10-point demands. When contacted, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Sanjay Mishra informed that not all the nurses are on strike majority of them are still serving patients at their workplace. As there are two nurses organizations working at NSCB Medical College Hospital, hence the ongoing strike has least affect on the healthcare activities there. However, majority of the striking nurses are deployed at the District Hospital and Rani Durgavati Hospital, hence the works are more affected there. Though the hospital administration made efforts to control the situation by deploying trainee nurses for damage control at both the hospitals.
