Monsoon Session of the State Assembly was adjourned just on the second day for an indefinite period following a chaotic scene by Opposition over alleged corruption in Shri Mahakal Lok and Satpura Bhawan fire that had engulfed several documents. After question hour, Congress party tabled adjournment motion seeking Government’s response on Shri Mahakal Lok idol collapse matter and massive fire broke out at the Satpura Bhawan, where files belonging to health and other two departments were gutted. Opposition alleged corruption and demanded discussion over the subjects in the House.
Congress leaders rushed to the well of the House chanting ‘Jai Shri Mahakal’ and displaying Lord Mahakal’s picture in the house. Amid the pandemonium, Speaker Girish Gautam transacted the listed business including Supplementary Budget of Rs 26,816.64 crore. It was passed by voice vote without any discussion amid uproar. Also, the Assembly passed a Bill to put a ban on advertisement of hukka bar, cigarette and tobacco products. The session’s beginning witnessed the question of private owners and forest land matters, rehabilitation issue pertaining to tribal population in the wake of irrigation projects and Mining Department.
During question hour, Congress MLA Alok Chaturvedi raised the issue of proper documentation of private land owners and land coming under the Forest Department and tribals. He urged the house to divulge about earlier information given by the house and demanded to make correction and action against the official responsible for providing wrong information immediately. Replying to Chaturvedi’s question forests Minister Vijay Shah said “proper action will be taken against the officials who misled the House”. The House witnessed noisy scenes as Opposition leaders found the Forest Minister’s assurance inadequate and they demanded immediate action as wrong information were malign the name of the said MLA.
Speaking on the issue, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that “during his tenure as Chief Minister of the, it was found that several tribal peoples claims on land were rejected by the department without valid reason. There should be meticulous consideration over such issues.” Responding to former Chief Minister’s statement, Minister Vijay Shah said that “Already several steps have been taken in this direction. Their team has minutely observed such cases and appropriate action has been taken. After House reassembled, Congress MLAs rushed to the well sloganeering against Government for cases of corruption and atrocities on tribals. On this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra moved a proposal to adjourn the House sine die. Speaker adjourned the session three days ahead of the schedule.
