The trade and industry representatives raised various issues related to GST and Income Tax at the meeting of Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee (RDTAC) held recently here at Aayakar Bhavan, Civil Lines. The members said that the tax payer’s refunds should not be adjusted beyond 20 per cent of the demand where appeal is pending. They also requested the concerned authorities to allow and accept the application for settlement before 01/04/2021 and not to make retrospective amendment for discontinuing Settlement Commission. Further, the members highlighted that in genuine cases where PAN and Aadhaar is not getting linked, some other way out should be provided to assessee. In addition, return of income can be filed at PAN centres also and the reconciliation of Income Tax and GST should be made simpler.
 
The members felt that the authorities should take liberal view during prosecution. “The limit of the prosecution in TDS were upto Rs 25 lakh be increased, so that in small cases by paying compounding charges, prosecution can be dropped. A liberal view should be adopted while granting registration of Charitable or Religious Trusts under Rule 17 and issues relating Rule 17. On the refunds under ‘Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme’ (VSVS), the representatives said many assessee’s refunds have not been credited yet. Even though orders have been passed but refund is not issued to the assessee. Apart from this, many other issues were raised and discussed by the committee for the betterment of citizens. The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax has assured that the issues raised will be resolved at the earliest and those issues which are national issues shall be sent to Chairman, CBDT.

The objective of the meeting was to curb the difficulties faced by the tax payers.
