PRIYANSHU Patil, keeping his slate clean, became champion in the Nagpur District Open Classical Chess Tournament that concluded at NDCA Hall, DNC Sports Complex, Congress Nagar on Sunday.The two-day event was organised by Nagpur District Chess Association (NDCA) in a joint venture with Dhanwate National College (DNC). The tournament was played in the Swiss League pattern in six rounds. Patil won all six rounds to emerge clear winner. Dishank Sachin Bajaj and Kushagra Paliwal finished with five points each and were declared first and second runner-up respectively when the tie-break rule was applied.
Five players secured four and a half points each to be place from fourth to eight. As many as ten players ended the tourney with four points in their kitty. Total cash prizes of Rs 10,000 for top 10, best female and best veteran players were given. Prizes were distributed at the hands of KK Barat, Secretary, NDCA. Other guests present were SNA Shrikant Bagde, Deepak Patrikar, Assistant Arbiter.
