Vijaya Borkar becomes first woman CE of MahaGenco

Vijaya Ravindra Borkar, a resident of Yavatmal district in Vidarbha, has been selected as the Chief Engineer (CE) of MahaGenco. In the process, Borkar has made history, as it is for the first time that a woman engineer has been elevated to the post of Chief Engineer in the State-owned power generation company. Earlier, a woman officer reached up to the post of Deputy Chief Engineer. Borkar has been posted as Chief Engineer (Project Management Group) at Mumbai Headqaurters. Vijaya Borkar, after passing BE (Electricals) from Government College of Engineering, Amravati, did MTech in Energy Management System from Nagpur University. She ranked second in the merit list. After joining the then Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) as Junior Engineer in the year 1993, she steadily worked her way with her meritorious performance.
 
Borkar held various positions in the MahaGenco in Koradi and Chandrapur Thermal Power Stations, in the Power Protection, Testing, Equipment and Control Departments, especially in handling 210 MW, 500 MW generation projects. Borkar has a long experience in technical works related to traffic and order in managing the generation sector. She has successfully held the post of Deputy Chief Engineer 210 MW in Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station for the last two years.
 
On her achievement, Vijaya Borkar said, she is proud to be working in one the leading power production company in the country and added MahaGenco is a university of knowledge as one gets to learn new things every day. She said women have great capacity to work. They should never lose consistency, must step out of the comfort zone, should not feel the need or differentiate with fellow male employees. To the women working in MahaGenco, she said, if they are hardworking, self-motivated, then success is bound to follow.
