Chhattisgarh has experienced continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days since the active onset of the monsoon season. While most parts of the State received light to moderate rainfall, a few places recorded heavy downpours. The maximum temperature in the State was recorded at 31.0 degrees Celsius in Bilaspur, while the minimum temperature was 22.60 degrees Celsius in Jagdalpur. On Monday, several districts received significant rainfall. Arang received 14 cm of rainfall, while Shivari Narayan recorded 10 cm. Masturi and Mahasamund received 9 cm of rainfall each. In Laabhandi, Raipur, and Mana - Raipur AP, the rainfall measured 8 cm. Other areas such as Navagarh, Geedam, Biraigadh, Baloda Bazaar, and Bhatapara witnessed 7 cm of rainfall. Pamgarh, Tilda, and Bhanupratappur received 6 cm of rainfall, while Gariyaband, Patharia, Pithora, and Lailunga recorded 5 cm. Simga, Sukma, Manpur Durg, Rajim, and Daundi experienced 4 cm of rainfall.
Beejapur, Sarangarh, Chuikhadan, Saja, and Bilha received 3 cm of rainfall. Senior meteorologist HP Chandra from IMD Raipur explained the prevailing weather patterns. The monsoon trough extends from Bikaner, Sikar, Urai, Sidhi, Abhanakaroon, and Barasor up to the eastern part of the Middle Ganga plain at an altitude of 1.5 kilometres. Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is present in southern Jharkhand and its surrounding areas, spreading up to a height of 7.6 kilometres. A wind shear zone extends from 4.5 kilometres to 7.6 kilometres, approximately 20 degrees north of the region. The forecast indicates the possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in many places across the State.
Some locations may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. On Tuesday, the capital city of Raipur is expected to have predominantly cloudy skies with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Raipur are likely to reach around 29°C and 24°C, respectively. The monsoon season has brought much-needed relief to Chhattisgarh; however, mixed weather conditions persist with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms affecting various parts of the State. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during inclement weather.
