A private jet carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi made an emergency landing at Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal due to rough weather on Tuesday. The Dassault Falcon 2000 (VT-HGL) jet had a technical snag and as a safety measure, the pilots decided to land it at Bhopal airport at 7:40 pm. Preliminary information revealed a technical fault in the plane caused due to heavy rains. The aircraft will be examined in Bhopal before being allowed to take off for Delhi. It belongs to charter operator Ashley Aviation.

The Gandhis seated in the VVIP lounge of the airport where Bhopal’s local Congress leaders including Suresh Pachauri, MLA and former Minister P C Sharma and MLA Arif Masood also reached there. The mother-son later departed for Delhi in an IndiGo flight at 9:30 pm. Notably, they were on their way back home to Delhi from Bengaluru after the two-day meeting of opposition parties that was attended by leaders of as many as 26 parties.
