INDIRA Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Nagpur Regional Centre felicitated its student Shashruti Vinayak Nakade for winning silver medal in the Asian Para Triathlon Championship held at Samarkand in Uzbekistan. She is the 1st Indian female to win this medal. Air Marshal Prashant Khandekar, AVSM (retired) was chief guest of the felicitation function. Dr P Sivaswaroop, Senior Regional Director, welcomed the guests.
In his welcome address, he said that many normal people feel worried that they are lacking something and state excuses that if they have something else they would have achieved great success. He emphasised that this girl Shashruti, with her disability, has brought silver medal by competing internationally. Air Marshal Khandekar congratulated the student and advised the youth that they should follow their heart and be strong in achieving their goal. He felicitated Shashruti with shawl, shreefal, bouquet and a memento.
Shashruti expressed her gratitude to IGNOU for felicitating her. She said that Para Triathlon Championship included 750m swimming, followed by 20km cycling and then 5 km running all non-stop. She was guided by coach Prashant Karmakar, Arjuna Awardee. She thanked her parents for the support and encouragement. Her father Vinayak and her mother also shared the details of the success journey. The programme was conducted by Shubhangi Naxine and Chandrashekhar Rajgure proposed a vote of thanks.
