Severe consequences of authorities’ negligence in the on-going sewer line project have come to light following recent heavy rainfall in the city. Residents are bearing the brunt of irregularities, facing numerous problems as colonies are getting waterlogged, roads have turned into muddy messes and vehicles get stuck in ditches and slush. The effect is especially felt in various areas, where waterlogging has become a recurring nightmare for the residents. Due to inefficient drainage systems, these residential areas have turned into swamps, making it challenging for people to commute. The roads are now covered in slush and mud, creating a dangerous situation for pedestrians and drivers. Moreover, big ditches dug out in residential areas are adding to the woes of denizens.
These unexpected obstacles are not only hindering traffic flow but also pose serious risks to commuters. Vehicles frequently find themselves stranded, intensifying the frustration of the already burdened residents. The plight of the affected people is awful as many find themselves confined within their homes due to the slushy surroundings. The situations are making simple tasks, such as going to work or executing household works, extremely difficult. Despite the outcry from citizens, the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials have turned a blind eye to the rising problems. Their lethargy towards people’s problems is disheartening. Corporators of Bharatiya Janata Party have raised concerns about the irregularities in the sewer line project. They argue that the prolonged delays and shoddy execution have made the entire city vulnerable to such mess. They said the locations where roads have been dug up are posing risks to residents.
One such example can be seen in Maharana Pratap Ward, where heaps of mud are found in the residential areas. Concurrently, the construction of the sewer line has been carried out haphazardly, leading to vehicles getting stuck
and worsening people’s problems. Corporator Jeetu Katare informed about a distressing incident that took place near Ganesh Temple area in Bhukamp Colony. He informed a cow fell into a chamber, left incomplete for three months. Such incidents highlight the dire consequences of neglect by the authorities concerned. Katare said despite repeated complaints and request to senior officials the situation in many areas in Garha is turning from bad to worse. He said that urgent action is needed to address the negligence and irregularities in sewer line project, ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
