SUKMA,
THE water level of the Godavari River continued to surge till late evening on Saturday, causing disruption of connectivity between Konta and the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In addition, vehicular movements on National Highway-30 near Veerapuram were severely impacted due to water logging conditions caused by the backwaters of the Godavari River. The road experienced water flow five-feet above its surface, leading to a halt in connectivity with the neighbouring states and resulting in long queues of goods carriers on both sides. As of 6 pm on Saturday, the water level of the Godavari River in Bhadrachalam had surpassed 56-feet, while the water level of the Shabri River was also rising due to the backflow from the Godavari River. The situation in Konta is concerning, as there is a possibility of a flood situation developing.

Despite the slow pace of the water level increase, the danger level of Shabri River in Konta stands at 13-meters, raising the potential for flooding. To address the escalating situation, Collector Harish S visited the floodaffected area of Konta and assessed the situation on the ground. He issued necessary directives to the officials and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, ensuring that the necessary preparations are in place to respond effectively in case of a flood. As a precautionary measure, Collector also engaged with the local residents, advising them to shift to relief centers should the flood situation worsen. The district administration is on high alert due to the continuous increase in the water level of the Godavari River. The government and administration are closely monitoring the flood-affected areas in the neighbouring states to ensure timely responses and support to the affected communities.
