Man arrested, CM orders stringent National Security Act against him
Madhya Pradesh Government will initiate bulldozer action to demolish illegal properties of Pravesh Shukla, who was arrested after a purported video showing him urinating on a tribal man went viral on social media, State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said on Wednesday.
Confirming the Government’s action, the Minister told reporters at his residence here that the act was “inhumane and condemnable”. Meanwhile, the accused was arrested late on Tuesday night. The incident took place at the Kubari market of Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh.
Sidhi Police said “We have taken the accused (Pravesh Shukla) into custody. He is under interrogation. Further legal action in the matter will be taken soon.”
A video showed Pravesh allegedly urinating on the tribal labourer in an inebriated state. He was seen smoking a cigarette as he peed on victim’s face.
Following an outburst on social media, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against him. He said “at any cost, the culprit will not be spared. Sternest possible action will be taken against him.
The accused was arrested on July 5.
The Chief Minister tweeted, “A viral video of Sidhi district has come to my notice. I have instructed the administration to arrest the culprit and take strict action and also impose NSA”.
According to reports, the victim, 36-year-old Dasmat Ravat from Karaundi, when brought in for questioning by the police dismissed the viral video as fake. The accused had also stated that it was a fake video.
Pravesh Shukla’s father Ramakant Shukla’s assertion that his son is the representative of MLA has initiated political slugfest across the State. However, the MLA dismissed the charge saying “Pravesh was never a representative of mine. He is neither my relative nor representative of mine”, Opposition called such an incident ‘intoxication of power’ and blamed government to take action very late.
Shukla’s alleged links with the ruling party have further emboldened the Opposition who claimed that the shocking incident is a symptom of a wider problem of violence against tribal people in Madhya Pradesh.
Pradesh Congress Chief Kamal Nath said, “Madhya Pradesh is already number one in tribal atrocities.
This incident has put the entire Madhya Pradesh to shame. I demand to give strict punishment to the accused. For such an act, I would say it is an intoxication of power. There is no place for such a heinous act in civilised society. Strictest punishment should be given to the guilty person and atrocities on tribals in Madhya Pradesh should be stopped.”
Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, BJP State head, V D Sharma said, “Party has constituted a four-member committee. Comprising MLA Ramlal Rautele, MLA Sharad Kaul, MLA Amar Singh and State BJP Vice President Kanti Sinh Dev. They will submit the report to State BJP chief.
On this inhuman issue, when asked whether the accused belong to BJP, V D Sharma said “Culprit has no caste, no religion no party. Criminal is just a criminal.”
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said, “Government took action only after the video went viral. It is very sad. Delayed action proves their involvement. The incident of a local influential man urinating on a Dalit youth in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh is shameful and condemnable.”
