IIIT-NR holds orientation programme for new B Tech students

THE four-day Orientation Programme for the newly-admitted first year B Tech students of IIIT-Naya Raipur commenced on Monday. The programme has been designed to cover detailed insight into IIIT-NR’s culture, academics, administration, and personality development activities conducted in the institute. As many as 180 students, their parents, faculty and staff members of the institute attended the programme. First day’s programme started with curtain-raiser session which was graced by Chief Guest and Principal Secretary Technical Education Department Dr Alok Shukla and the Guest of Honour Professor Dr V C Vivekanandan, Vice-Chancellor of Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur. The programme commenced with lighting of lamp and Saraswati Vandana followed by Chhattisgarh Rajya Geet. In his welcome address, Director of IIIT-NR Dr Pradeep K Sinha addressed the students as ‘Aan, Ban aur Shaan’ of the institute. He congratulated the students on their admission and asked them to express their gratitude to all the people in their life including parents, teachers, friends and family members, who took a lot of pain for them so that they can achieve their goals.
 
While motivating the students to set up their new goals for the next four years, he asked them to keep their curiosity alive so that they can work harder to fulfill their dreams. He also emphasised on becoming a good human being while pursuing their professional studies and career. Chief guest Dr Alok Shukla spoke about how fast technology is changing in today’s times. Citing his own life experiences, he stressed on the need to continuously adapt to changing technology to be relevant. He asked the students to try to be a leader not a follower. He advised the students not to do what has already been done, but to look for the next big thing, which will benefit more and more people. He summed up his talk saying that the only difference between a machine and a human being is positive emotions or insight in humans, which makes them superior in handling technology. Guest of Honour Professor Dr V C Vivekanandan talked about technology in governance.
 
His talk focused on how governance has changed from ancient times and now, with the technological advancement. He threw light on how the usage of technology has influenced decision making. The inaugural session of the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dean Academics Professor Rajesh Ingle. The other sessions conducted in the day included a session on ‘Culture and Values of the Institute’ by Dr Pradeep Sinha, Director IIIT-NR. It was followed by sessions on hostel rules, scholarships, IT infrastructure and usage, and anti-ragging policy by faculty and staff members. An Open House Interaction of the families of the students with the senior administration of the institute was also held. In the third and last session, the freshers got introduced to their new fellow students.
