A woman was brutally killed by her husband by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon in Ambedkar Nagar area of Wadi Police Station on Sunday morning. The incident took place within an hour of her return from her parents’ home, police said. The deceased has been identified as Pranali Lalit Dahat (34). The accused, Lalit Ramdas Dahat (38), was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident. Lalit worked as a security guard at Shikara Bar, police said. A police official said that Pranali had previously been divorced from her first husband, while Lalit had parted ways with his first wife. The two got married in a temple six years ago, but their relationship seemed to have been going through constant arguments and suspicions about Pranali’s character.

On August 25, Pranali travelled to her parents’ home at Wardha. She returned to Nagpur on Sunday morning, around 8 am. Lalit picked her up from Rahate Colony and they reached their residence around 8.30 am. An altercation ensued between the couple, which escalated into a violent confrontation. Fueled by rage, Lalit allegedly attacked Pranali with a sharp weapon, ultimately slitting her throat. After committing the murder, he reportedly locked the house and left. Subsequently, he contacted a relative and a police friend, informing them about the murder. The police were alerted by the friend and rushed to the scene.

The police team, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chetna Tidke and Senior Police Inspector of Wadi Police Station Pradeep Rayannawar, entered the house after breaking down the door. The body of Pranali was discovered and later sent for autopsy to Mayo Hospital. A case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Lalit, who was later arrested by the police. The motive behind murder is believed to be Lalit’s suspicions about his wife’s character, which had reportedly led to frequent arguments between them.
