One held under ‘Operation Shikanja’, liquor worth Rs 3.31 lakh confiscated

Continuing the ‘Operation Shikanja’, Majholi police have succeeded in apprehending an accused and seized 37 crates illegal stock of English liquor worth Rs 3.31 lakh and a loading vehicle. The arrested has been identified as Kaleem Ahmed (30), a resident of near Gausia Madarsa, Thakkar Gram in Hanumantal. It may be noted that under the direction of Superintendent of Police, Tushar Kant Vidyarthi, police have started a special campaign ‘Opereation Shikanja’ against illegal trade and transportation of liquor in the district under the supervision of Additional SP (Rural), Suryakant Sharma and SDOP, Sihora, Parul Sharma.
 
SHO of Majholi police station, Kamlesh Chouriya informed that during the campaign, police received information that a loading vehicle bearing registration number MP-20G-7023 loaded with illegal stock of liquor was seen travelling from Bachaiyya area in Katni district towards Jabalpur. Taking prompt action on the information, police started vehicles’ searching at Bachaiyya road near Dora river. Soon after starting of search, police spotted the identified pick-up vehicle. Witnessing the police, driver tried to escape from the spot but alert cops chased the truck and succeeded in stopping it near Aanganwadi Centre and its driver was arrested.
 
In further investigation, driver was identified as Kaleem Ahmed while police have seized 37 crates illegal stock of English liquor amounting to Rs 3.30 lakh and loading vehicle amounting to Rs 5 lakh. Majholi police have registered a case under Section 34(2) of Excise Act while further investigations are underway to identify the source of receiving the illegal stock of liquor and persons involved in illegal transportation of liquor. Illegal stock of liquor was seized with active working of police team comprised of SI, Abhilash Mishra, SI, Rishabh Singh Baghel, Constables, Sumit and Manoj Singh.
