BILASPUR,
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi launched the foundation stone laying ceremony for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across India through a video conference. This initiative, known as the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ underscores Modi’s commitment to modernising public transport infrastructure. Chhattisgarh is a vital participant in this endeavor, witnessing notable upgrades in its railway stations. The scheme includes nine stations within the South East Central Railway (SECR) network: Bilaspur, Akaltara, Raipur, Durg, Bhilai Power House, Tilda-Neora, Gondia, Wadsa and Chandafort.

Upon completion, these stations will offer facilities comparable to airports, expanding beyond basic amenities. Bilaspur, Raipur, and Durg stations will evolve into attractive hubs with advanced passenger amenities. The scheme is anticipated to generate local employment opportunities alongside increased passenger traffic. The redevelopment strategy encompasses more than infrastructure enhancements. The ‘City Centres’ concept ensures integration with both sides of the city, aligning with urban development focused around railway stations. Chhattisgarh plays a substantial role in the scheme’s first phase, with seven stations involved. The scheme emphasizes traffic circulation, inter-modal integration, signage, and modern amenities. Station designs will draw inspiration from local culture, heritage, and architecture. The comprehensive redevelopment of stations like Akaltara, TildaNeora, Bhilai Power House, Gondia, Wadsa, and Chanda Fort includes improved car parking facilities. The scheme aims to enhance the overall travel experience, revitalising stations and infrastructure. The 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' envisions phased development with amenities such as access, waiting areas, toilets, Wi-Fi, and more. It prioritizes multimodal integration, accessibility, sustainability, efficient track systems, and long-term feasibility. Environmental considerations are integrated, with modern sewage treatment plants for waste management. Aesthetic improvements and landscaping create pleasing environments.

Travellers can expect better seating, improved water facilities, lighting, and ventilation. Modernised boards and signage aid navigation, ensuring accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The initiative transforms the South East Central Railway, aligning with Modi's vision of vibrant, well-connected stations that cater to local communities. At a ceremony in Bilaspur Railway Station, Arun Sao, State President of the BJP, hailed the leadership of Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, expressing gratitude on behalf of Chhattisgarh. Sao praised Modi's vision to elevate India's global standing and transform the nation. He paid tribute to Atal Behari Vajpayee's contributions, including the establishment of Chhattisgarh state and key institutions. Divisional Railway Manager Praveen Pandey discussed the redevelopment of 17 stations in the Bilaspur Division. The event was attended by various officials and dignitaries.
