DURG,
A mishap occurred at the Dalli Rajhara Iron Ore Mines, a part of the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) on Wednesday night, when a conveyor gallery collapsed onto a goods train loaded with iron ore. The aftermath of the collapse resulted in
significant damage to both the train wagon and the adjacent railway line. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of BSP, the incident transpired around 8:30 pm with a resounding crash as conveyor gallery no 16-17 suddenly buckled under unknown circumstances. The unforeseen event led to the immediate disruption of the railway line, halting any ongoing activities.
Remarkably, the goods train, which was primed to depart for the Bhilai Steel Plant carrying a cargo of iron ore, had narrowly avoided catastrophe. The logo operator had fortuitously vacated the area and was tending to responsibilities at gallery number 19 at the moment of the incident. The impact of the gallery’s collapse onto the goods train resulted in considerable damage to the wagon itself. Responding swiftly to the news of the accident, the management at Bhilai Steel Plant sprang into action.
To ascertain the causes and implications of the accident, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident. Interestingly, the plant's employees have pointed out a history of concern regarding the precarious state of the gallery's structure. They claim that this unfortunate incident could have been preemptively averted with more proactive management. Allegedly, employees had consistently drawn attention to the deteriorating condition of the structure, but their warnings went unheeded. Had the necessary maintenance and repairs been conducted in a timely manner, this tragic accident might have been prevented.
