A significant two-day meeting of the G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) is set to commence at the May Fair Lake Resort in Atal Nagar, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, under the Indian G20 Presidency. The event is scheduled for September 18 and 19, with proceedings commencing at 10 am on Monday. Chaired by Chandni Raina, Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and Sam Beckett, Chief Economic Adviser, HM Treasury, UK, this meeting brings together over 65 delegates from G20 member countries, invitees, as well as international and regional organisations. The delegates have already arrived and received a warm Chhattisgarhi traditional welcome at Swami Vivekananda Airport Raipur. The primary objective of the FWG is to facilitate discussions on the current global economic outlook and provide policy guidance on critical macroeconomic matters. Notably, the 2023 Indian Presidency has successfully concluded the deliverables of this working group, which are referenced in the New Delhi Leaders Declaration. These deliverables include the G20 Report on Macroeconomic Impacts of Food and Energy Insecurity and the G20 Report on Macroeconomic Risks Stemming from Climate Change and Transition Pathways. The upcoming meeting will review the discussions in the FWG during 2023 and explore future areas of focus. In conjunction with the meeting, the Reserve Bank of India will host a series of Jan Bhagidari events, featuring panel discussions on digital banking and financial inclusion, financial literacy programs, a G20 awareness initiative, a painting contest, and a slogan-writing competition.
A special ‘Ratri Bhoj Par Samvad’ (Conversation over Dinner) will be hosted for the delegates at the hotel Resort on Monday evening. Furthermore, the delegates will have the opportunity to visit the Nandanvan Zoological Garden on September 19. A cultural event will enable them to savor the unique cuisine and cultural richness of Chhattisgarh. The city of Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar, has been meticulously prepared to host the fourth G20 FWG meeting. Beautification and maintenance works, including colorful footpaths, posters, banners, and illuminated electric poles, have enhanced the city’s aesthetic appeal. G20 Vatika, a designated area, has been developed where delegates from G20 countries will plant saplings. Idols and posters showcasing the culture of Chhattisgarh and the enduring aspects of Indian culture adorn the streets of Nava Raipur. Stringent security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the G20 meeting. It’s important to note that the G20 consists of 19 countries and the European Union. The member countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US. India holds the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.
