RAIPUR,
In a distressing incident that has raised serious questions about the security measures in Raipur, a case of gang rape involving two girls from Mahasamund has come to light. The incident occurred on Thursday night, shaking the confidence in the claimed high alert status of the Raipur Police. According to the reports, both girls were returning home with a young man after celebrating the Raksha Bandhan festival when their journey took a horrifying turn. A group of miscreants blocked their path on Godhi Road, located under the Mandir Hasaud police station area, and carried out this heinous act. The victims and the young man had reached RIMS Hospital near Godhi Road, between 9 and 10 pm when they were surrounded by a group of youths. Initially, the miscreants assaulted the young man and then forcibly silenced both girls before dragging them to a secluded location, where they subjected them to gang rape.
The victim girls are sister and one is a minor and another girl is fiancée of the man accompanying them.

After the ordeal, the victims managed to return home late at night, filled with fear, and promptly informed their family members about the traumatic incident. Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged with the police. Currently, the authorities have registered an FIR in connection with the incident and have apprehended ten individuals as suspects. One of the accused in the case has been identified as the son of BJP Mandir Hasaud Mandal Vice-President. Name of the ten accused are Poonam Thakur, Ghanshyam Nishad, Luv Tiwari, Nayan Sahu, Keval Verma alias Sonu, Devcharan Dheevar, Lakshmi Dhruv, Prahlad Sahu, Krishna Sahu and Yugal Kishore. These suspects are undergoing intense interrogation as the investigation unfolds.

The main accused was released on 17 August after serving jail term in a case of rape and murder. The incident has left the community in shock and disbelief, as it transpired despite the Raipur Police’s claims of heightened security measures, especially in light of the President’s visit to the capital. The occurrence of such a grave crime within the city has exposed significant shortcomings in the security apparatus, leading to calls for a thorough re-evaluation of safety protocols and law enforcement efforts in the region.
