The Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has embarked on an ambitious project to revamp the Civic Centre, often referred to as the heart of the Steel City. With an estimated cost exceeding several crores, the project aims to modernise the Civic Centre using state-of-the-art techniques. However, questions have already been raised about the quality of the work being carried out. Notably, under this project, a parking lot was constructed at the Civic Centre at a cost of approximately Rs 1 crore just a few months ago. Unfortunately, the quality of the work has come under scrutiny due to a lack of proper planning and execution. The parking lot was constructed with such negligence that it trapped a bus, and the unevenly laid paver blocks created significant problems.

Sarad Dubey, BMC’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that the construction of the parking lot at the Civic Center cost nearly 1 crore, but the contractor is yet to get payment. This delay in payment is due to the delay in the construction work. Dubey also highlighted the irregularities and the bus getting stuck as concerns and shared that the BMC Commissioner has ordered an inquiry by the zonal commissioner.

When contacted about the incident of the bus getting trapped in the parking lot, Bhilai Mayor Neeraj Pal stated that he had no information about the matter. He emphasized that the project has not been completed in its entirety, and many construction activities are still in progress. The quality can only be assessed after the completion of construction work and handover by the contractor. Mayor Pal assured that he would seek information from municipal officials as obtaining details without it is difficult.
