“A special package will be given to Nagpur for permanent flood control to protect Nagpur from getting affected by flood situations in future,” announced State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil on Friday while interacting with mediapersons. On the suggestion of Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of the district Devendra Fadnavis, Patil had come to prepare an integrated plan on the flood situation of Nagpur. The havoc by recent rains severely affected certain areas of Nagpur. Fadnavis has instructed officials concerned to take strong measures to ensure that such flood situations do not arise in Nagpur even after the heaviest rains. “The Deputy Chief Minister has asked officials that all the departments should coordinate and prepare a comprehensive proposal. Panchnamas should be completed in any case by October 2. Distribution of ex-gratia amount should start from October 3. After the receipt of details of all panchnamas, the report will be placed in the Cabinet meeting by October 3,” Patil informed the media.
 
The minister explained that funds would be made available by the State Government for this purpose. Patil had also
convened a meeting held in Bachat Bhavan attended by Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhary, District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Zilla Parishad President Mukta Kokkde, MLA Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, and Ashish Jaiswal, Vikas Thakre, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Saumya Sharma, State Disaster Response Force Commandant Dr Priyanka Naranaware, Relief and Rehabilitation Department Deputy Secretary Dharurkar, ex-Mayor and Honouary Secretary to DCM Sandeep Joshi, along with other officials. Director of State Disaster Management Department Appasaheb Dhulaj participated in the meeting through video conferencing. Minister directed that Panchnamas of some other places are pending and they should be completed immediately.
 
He also directed officials to conduct panchnamas of the damages caused to the citizens who don’t want any financial help. The public representatives have brought, the various problems in flood-affected areas, to the notice of the minister. Patil said, “The Government is trying to remove all the obstacles in the flow of Nag river. Help will be provided to connect the broken wall on Nag river. But now this will be a permanent construction. Some bridges will be reconstructed with new technology. Structural audit of Ambazari lake will be conducted. This 150 years old lake will be developed in such a way that there will be no danger for the next 150 years. The encroachment in the area of both the drains in the city will be removed.” Minister also said that previous pending work would be settled by holding meetings at the ministerial level.
 
Patil visits flood-hit areas
Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil on Friday visited flood affected areas and interacted with citizens. Patil visited Ambazari Lake, Ambazari Ghat, Kachhipura, Saraswati Vidyalaya, Corporation colony, bridge near Jhansi Rani square. During the inspection, he assured all help. Patil also inspected the Nagpur center of the State Disaster Response Force. He got know about the equipment with SDRF like VLC Camera, Oxygen Cylinder, Air Lifting Bag, Floating Pump, Scuba Set, Aska Light etc. District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Commandant of State Disaster Response Force Dr Priyanka Naranvare, Assistant Commandant Krishna Sontakke and others were present.
