Rohan Gurbani and Nehal Gosavi will spearhead the city challenge in the Yonex Sunrise Nandu Natekar Memorial Maharashtra Senior Inter-District and State Championship which gets under way from Saturday at the indoor hall of Dhanwate National College, Dhantoli. The tournament is organised by Nagpur District Badminton Association under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association. Performance of the players at various tournaments at higher levels are considered for the selection of Nagpur team.
The selection was made by the selection sub-committee of NDBA at a meeting held recently and the team was announced by NDBA Secretary Mangesh Kashikar. The Senior Inter-District and State Championship is supported by MLA Vikas Thakre and co-sponsored by WCL and MOIL. Meditirina Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur will be the medical partner while Varhadi Village will be the food partner.
The team championship will be held at Dhanwate National College, Dhantoli from September 30 to October 1. The individual championship will be held at Divisional Sports Complex, Koradi Road, Mankapur from October 2 to 5. Twenty-four districts of Maharashtra have nominated their teams for the championship. For individual championship 505 entries have been received. Events to be conducted are: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Uday Sane from Pune will be the chief referee while Viswas Deswandikar (Pune) will be his deputy. Other officials: Match Control: Aniruddha Joshi (Pune).
