The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has given its approval to the appointment of senior advocate Praphulla Kumar Bharat as the new Advocate General of the State. The decision was announced on Wednesday following the approval from Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan. Praphulla Kumar Bharat, born on June 22, 1966, brings a wealth of legal experience to his new role. Holding a Master’s degree and an LLB, he served as the former Additional Advocate General of Chhattisgarh during the previous Dr Raman Singh-led BJP Government from 2014 to 2018.
With an extensive legal career, Bharat has been practicing at the High Court of Chhattisgarh since November 2000, specialising in Civil, Constitutional, Arbitration, and Criminal Matters. His legal expertise extends to his tenure at the High Court of Madhya Pradesh Jabalpur from 1995 to 2000 and the District Court in Jagdalpur, Bastar from 1992 to 1995. Throughout his career, Bharat has demonstrated proficiency in handling various types of cases, including civil matters, criminal matters, service disputes, interpretations, land disputes, acquisitions, contractual obligations, tenders, and matters related to the interpretation of statutes.
His experience spans both sides of service disputes, representing both employers and employees. Having served as the Additional Advocate General, Bharat has a commendable track record in dealing with arbitration proceedings for contracts and agreements between parties. With his vast and varied legal experience, the appointment of Senior Advocate Praphulla Kumar Bharat is expected to contribute significantly to the legal landscape of Chhattisgarh.
