Commercial capital of State, Indore once again emerged as winner of Swachh Survekshan-2023 for the seventh time in a row. This year Indore has to share this award with another Gujarat’s city, Surat. As the diamond city, Surat was also adjudged the ‘cleanest cities’ in the country for the first time. The results of the annual cleanliness survey (Survekshan-2023) were announced on Thursday in New Delhi. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh slipped to second Cleanest State in the country after Maharashtra. The State’s capital Bhopal jumped a notch to secure fifth position in the ranking. Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh has got the top rank in the category of Cleanest Cantonment Boards. Exclusively talking to ‘The Hitavada’ over phone, Indore Mayor Pushaymitra Bhargav said “this award is dedicated to the Bhagwan Shri Ram.
Due to the efforts of the people of Indore and hard work of safai Mitras, the city has retained the title. With this achievement, not only in the country but Indore has become a global model also.” CM Mohan Yadav along with Indore MP Shankar Lalwani received the award from President Droupadi Murmu in a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi According to the data, 4,447 urban local bodies participated in the Swachh Survekshan 2023 and 12 core citizen responses were received. The Government claims it to be the world's largest cleanliness survey. IMC’s waste disposal process is a bio-CNG plant which runs on the wet waste collected from the city.
It is Asia's largest such facility. More than 10,000 safai mitras (sanitary workers) work in three shifts to keep Indore clean. Sewage generated in the city too is treated at special plants and reused at 200 public gardens, farms and for construction activities according to the IMC official. As per the information, the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India, annually publish National City Rating under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scheme. The rating includes around 500 cities, covering 72 per cent of the urban population in India.
