“We have a good bunch of leaders in all age groups. They all are working very hard. Unfortunately, we lack unity. Bringing all sections together so that they should work under one umbrella is my focus. They have a lot of misunderstandings among themselves. I am trying to remove them by talking to the individuals,” asserted Ramesh Chennithala, Party In-Charge of Congress for Maharashtra. Chennithala was speaking to mediapersons at Hotel Centre Point on Friday. After taking over charge of Party In-charge in Maharashtra from H K Patil, Chennithala started series of meetings with party office-bearers of various sections within Congress. He is now conducting district-wise meetings of divisions in the State. For example, a meeting of Amravati division comprising Buldhana, Yavatmal, Washim, Akola and Amravati was held on Thursday. Similarly, the Nagpur division comprising Wardha, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Gondia, Bhandara, Nagpur will be held at Gadchiroli on Saturday.

The meeting was earlier planned at Nagpur. Recently, Chennithala warned his party leaders that those who wanted to leave the party could do so. Whoever remains in the party should not disturb the unity of the party. “Sometimes, I have to take some harsh steps. People want to vote for Congress, but lack of unity in the party makes them second-guess their decision. I have asked my party workers, office-bearers to come to me and share their problems. I shall try to solve it as per my capacity. Congress has a rich tradition. It is a big party. People are looking to it with a lot of hopes against the backdrop of whatever is going on in the country,” stated Chennithala.

Sometime ago, Rahul Gandhi had conducted meetings with booth level volunteer to block level officer, district and city representatives and listened to them. On the same line, Chennithala has contemplated some planning for Pradesh Congress Committee in Maharashtra. “We will not have any problem within Maha Vikas Aaghadi (MVA) while chalking out the seat sharing formula. We will finalise it within next two weeks. Secondly, this time the distribution of tickets will be made earlier,” said Chennithala. About the fund crunch with Pradesh Congress Committee, Chennithala said that all the problems are being resolved gradually.
