The Nagpur Rural Police unravelled a ‘contract killing’ angle in the firing incident in which a Deputy Sarpanch was
shot at by two persons at Mangarul village in Umred Police Station area on Tuesday. Three persons, including the prime accused and two contract killers, were arrested by the police on Wednesday. A police official said that Rs four lakh was offered as ‘Supari’ (contract killing) to murder Gabbar Devrao Revatkar, a 42-year-old Mangrul resident and Deputy Sarpanch. The arrested accused have been identified as Amol alias Rameshwar Vitthal Gandhare (30), a resident of Mangrul; Karthik Rameshwar Panchbude (26), and Lakshman Tukaram Rathod (40), both residents of Telkawdasi in Umred Tehsil.

The police official said that the motive behind the murder plot stems from Gabbar’s victory over Amol in the elections. Also, Gabbar had reported Amol’s involvement in the illegal liquor trade to the police which further intensified the animosity. In a bid to avenge Gabbar’s activities, Amol approached Laxman and his accomplice Karthik, and offered them Rs four lakh to carry out the attack. The incident took place on a Tuesday morning when Gabbar, after his routine morning walk, was targeted by Karthik and Laxman, who arrived on a motorcycle. Laxman fired a shot from a pellet gun at Gabbar. Both assailants quickly fled the scene. Umred Police registered a case of attempted murder and launched an investigation. Upon learning about Amol’s involvement, the police swiftly arrested him.

Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of Karthik and Laxman. The trio have been handed over to the Umred Police. The official said that Amol has a history of illegal sale of liquor and kidnapping while Laxman has two murder cases registered against him at the Bela Police Station. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) Harssh Poddar, Add SP Dr Sandip Pakhale, the arrest was made by PI (LCB) Omprakash Kokate, API Ashish Singh Thakur, PSI Wagh, ASI Chandrasekhar Ghadekar, staff including Mayur Dhekle, Gajendra Chaudhary, Sumit Bangde, and Ashutosh and others.
