General insurance employees, pensioners stage protests

On the appeal of Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Associations (JFTU) in Public Sector General Insurance (PSGI) Companies, the PSGI Employees held lunch hour demonstrations all over the country on January 24. The aggrieved employees demonstrated for their legitimate demands, viz; immediate discussion on Wage Revision due from August 1, 2022, uniform 30 per cent Family Pension, scrapping of National Pension System (NPS) and demanding 1995 Pension Scheme for all. Till then, they demanded increase employer’s contribution to 14 per cent in NPS, merger of PSGI companies and adequate requirement of workforce in all cadres. At Nagpur, more than 250 employees held lunch hour demonstrations in front of Regional Office of United India Insurance Company Limited, Shankar Nagar Square. Before the demonstrations, General Insurance Pensioners Association (GIPA) Western Zone, Nagpur Region members held half day dharna from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm at the same spot. This dharna was held to draw the attention of Government and General Insurers Public Sector Association of India (GIPSA) towards their demands of 30 per cent Family Pension, updation of pension and improvement in Staff Group Mediclaim Policy. A large number of retired employees participated in the dharna.
 
After the demonstrations, a gate meeting was also organised. In the meeting, Arun Kulkarni, Vice President of General Insurance Pensioners All India Federation, Prashant Dixit, General Secretary of General Insurance Employees’ Union Western Zone (GIEU WZ), Anil Sakharkar of General Insurance Backward Class Employees Welfare Association, Vinod Sakhare of All India General Insurance SC/ST Employees Welfare Parishad (J), Surendra Kamble, President of All India General Insurance SC/ST Employees Welfare Assn, Nagpur Region, Anil Nimje of United India Insurance Co. Officers Assn and Pradeep Dharamthok, President, GIEU WZ addressed the gathering. Anant Borekar of National Insurance Co. Officers Association and Shital Bhopale of Insurance OBC Employees Welfare Association were also present. Leaders of all the organisations have decided to fight together to achieve the demands. The meeting was conducted by Saurabh Tatekar. Thereafter a joint memorandum was submitted to GIPSA Chairman through the Deputy GM of United India Insurance Company Limited.
