Works for smooth flow of water from the dam to be completed by June

 

 

 

 

 

 

Various works relating to the smooth flow of water from the Ambazari dam will be completed by the end of June. The works will be started by February and March. This was informed by Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources Department (WRD), and Maha Metro during the high-level committee’s review meeting held on Wednesday. Vijayalakshmi Bidari, Divisional Commissioner, who chaired the meeting, asked the officers concerned to update the information regarding different works relating to Ambazari dam strengthening being done by various agencies, and submit the supplementary affidavit before the High Court. The experts from WRD, PWD, and MERI have conducted joint inspection of Ambazari dam to suggest measures for release of additional water. Accordingly, they have suggested to install four gates for release of surplus water from the dam. Previously, WRD had recommended two gates. Bidari asked the officials concerned to prepare a plan considering the suggestion for having four gates for release of water from the dam.

 

Dr Abhijit Chaudhary, Municipal Commissioner; Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro; Anil Kokate, Director; Asha Pathan, Additional Collector; P K Pawar, Chief Engineer of WRD; Pramod Mandade, Managing Director of Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI); Janardhan Bhanuse, Superintending Engineer of PWD; Shweta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC); Deepali Motiyele, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue); P M Bhandarkar, Superintending Engineer, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), attended the meeting.

 

To ensure smooth flow of water from the dam, encroachments are to be removed as per the directions of the High Court. Dr Chaudhary informed the officers from different agencies present in the meeting that the work of encroachment removal from the bed of Nag river and along the banks of the river wasstarted after making list of such encroachments. Besides, the works of cleaning and deepening of Nag river were being done. NIT officer informed that the tender process for removing the parking slab near NIT’s skating rink was in the final phase. The tender process for construction/repairs of roads and bridges to facilitate smooth flow of water from the dam will be started in 10 days. The works will be started by February and March, and completed by the end of June, said PWD, WRD, and Maha Metro officers. Bidari asked the officials of NMC, WRD, NIT, and Maha Metro to submit on a regular basis the report of the works done by them.
