Droupadi Murmu, President of India, honoured Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector of Nagpur, with the National Best Electoral Practice Award-2023 in a ceremony held at Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi on Thursday. Election Commission of India had organised the programme to mark the 14th National Voter Day. Arjunram Meghwal, Union Minister; Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner; Anupchandra Pande, Election Commissioner; Arun Goyal also shared the dais on this occasion. Dr Itankar received the award at the hands of the President of India. Dr Itankar is the only officer in the list of awardees from Maharashtra.
 
The Election Commission of India had announced the National Best Electoral Practice Award-2023 to Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector and District Election Officer of Nagpur, in the category of Voter Education and Electoral
Participation. Dr Itankar had launched ‘Mission Yuva’ campaign to increase the number of voters in the forthcoming elections. Under this campaign, he set the target of enrolling 75,000 young voters in Nagpur district from July 15, 2023 to January 2024, keeping in mind the 75th anniversary celebrations of Indian Independence. Total 88,609 new young voters in the age-group of 17 to 19 years were enrolled as against the target of 75,000 registrations. Interestingly, the voter registration is still in progress. The Election Commission of India took note of this effective campaign, and appreciated the drive of Dr Itankar of setting a target and achieving it with flying colours.
