The announcement of Jageshwar Yadav’s selection for the Padma Shri award has ignited an atmosphere of jubilation across villages, especially among the Birhor and other backward tribe-dominated communities. The residents of Bhitghara village erupted in joy, celebrating his well-deserved recognition. Revered as the ‘Brother of Birhor,’ Jageshwar Yadav’s journey is deeply rooted in his upbringing amidst the challenges faced by the tribal communities. Jageshwar Yadav, a resident of Jashpur district, whose relentless efforts towards uplifting the Birhor tribals particularly in the remote regions of Jashpur, earning him the prestigious Padma Shri award for the year 2024.
 
Hailing from the serene village of Bhitghara in the Bagicha block, Jageshwar Yadav has been a beacon of hope for the Birhor tribe since 1989. Establishing an ashram in Jashpur, he embarked on a mission to combat illiteracy, provide healthcare, and champion the rights of the tribal communities. Even amidst financial constraints, his unwavering commitment to service remained unblemished. Witnessing firsthand the struggles of the Birhor tribals for education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, he resolved to be the catalyst for change.
 
By immersing himself in their language and culture, he encouraged a spirit of education among them, encouraging children to pursue schooling. His selfless endeavors have not gone unnoticed, earning him accolades such as the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Award in 2015. Despite encountering numerous hurdles along the way, Jageshwar Yadav’s passion for social transformation has remained undeterred. As the news spread, the entire village of Bhitghara boomed with celebratory fervor, rejoicing in the recognition bestowed upon their beloved champion of social justice and tribal welfare.
