BUREAU of Indian Standards (BIS), Nagpur Branch celebrated 77th Foundation Day of BIS on Saturday at Hotel Centre Point Nagpur. BIS (formerly ISI), a statutory body under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution is responsible for standardisation, marking and quality certification in India. Hemant Ade, Head, Nagpur branch, BIS unfolded the history of standardisation in India. He elaborated the operations of BIS and the benefit that the organisation brings to the consumers. Sandesh Gokanwar, Deputy Director, BIS gave a presentation on latest standards of BIS. Piyush Wasekar, Joint Director was also present. On this occasion, 77 licensee manufacturers were felicitated with memento for their consistent product quality standards.
 
M/s Megataj, Nagpur and Sanskar Wahini Gram Vikas Shikshan Sanstha, a Amravati-based NGO were felicitated for their contribution in consumer awareness. While proposing vote of thanks, Piyush Wasekar, Joint Director, BIS appealed manufacturers to achieve new heights of product quality standards. BIS in association with seven licensee manufacturers presented sports kits for school students to seven schools. BIS has been forming ‘Standards Club’ at different schools to generate awareness in kids about product quality. Students who exceled in different activities were felicitated with certificates and cash prizes.
