Obeying traffic rules should be a priority of all citizens, says DCP Archit Chandak 
 
CRACKING a whip against traffic rule violators, the CityTraffic Police launched a special operation that resulted inissuing challans against a whopping 6,353 vehicle owners inone single day. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic ArchitChandak termed the initiative as to foster better traffic discipline among citizens and protect lives of the road users. The action revealed that majority of the violations werefor failing to wear helmets, with 4,599 motorcyclists penalisedby the cops. Other violations included 51 cases of wrongside driving, 163 for riding triple-seat, 158 for not wearingseatbelts, 96 for using black film on windows, and additional fines for unauthorised passenger transport, no-entry violations, driving without a license, crossing stop lines, unauthorized parking, and various other violations.
 
The operation involved 500 traffic officers deployed across10 divisions, with a focus on the rampant issue of helmet non-compliance, which is linked to a high rate of head injuriesin road accidents. Despite ongoing action, many two-wheeler riders werefound riding vehicles without helmets. DCP Chandak noted that this crackdown resulted in thehighest number of fines imposed in a single day over thepast two years. He underlined the importance of unannounced enforcement actions to encourage adherence totraffic regulations for citizens. “Obeying traffic rules should be a priority for all citizens,”DCP Chandak stated and claimed that this not only alleviates traffic congestion but also plays a crucial role in savinglives from accidents.
