Residents of the Dhantoli area are fed up with the littering of garbage in the neighbourhood by both residents and commercial establishments. Despite repeated complaints, this once calm and posh locality is facing major problems with garbage dumping in unwanted places. Shockingly, this practice has been going on for years, yet Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has not initiated any action. The garbage dumps remain unattended leaving residents to live amid foul smell and various diseases. Often, many citizens frequent near garbage dumps to attend nature’s call. The area behind Gorakshan Sabha, near Shree Ramkrishna Math, has turned into a dumping ground.

Garbage is littered by the roadside for about 25 meters, with several persons dumping garbage at the site daily. Some commercial establishments even send three-wheelers loaded with garbage which are emptied at the spot. Even some people are found discarding stale food at the site. Another problematic area is near Shreekrishna Hospital, where anti-social elements dump waste on the sewage chamber which later on get accumulated leading to health hazards for nearby residents. A frustrated senior citizen said, NMC officials are ignoring the residents’ grievances. “Such illegal garbage dumping should be curbed immediately by the civic authority,” he demanded.
