A hardcore Maoist couple carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh surrendered before Gadchiroli Police and CRPF on Tuesday. The couple Varun Raja Muchaki alias Unga (27) and Roshani Vijya Wachami (24) turned themselves in before the police. Maharashtra Government had announced a reward of Rs 8 lakh on Varun Raja and a reward of Rs 2 lakh on Roshani Vijya Wachami. Varun Raja Muchaki was Commander, Bhamragadh LOS, and resident of Pidmili in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. His wife Roshani Vijya Wachami was a party member of Bhamragarh LOS, and resident of Mallampoddur in Gadchiroli district. Varun Raja was recruited in Konta area in 2015 and worked as the party member. He worked as a bodyguard of DKSZCM Giridhar from 2015 to 2020 and was later transferred to Bhamragadh LOS in 2020.
 
He worked as Deputy Commander till 2022 and after that as Dalam Commander in Bhamragarh LOS. A total of 15 crimes have been registered against him, including 10 encounters and 5 other offences. Roshani Vijya Wachami was recruited in Rahi LOS in 2015 and worked as the party member. She was transferred to Bhamragarh LOS in 2016 where she worked until 2017. Roshani was later shifted to Aheri LOS in 2017 and moved to Bhamragarh LOS again in 2022 where she worked as party member till date.
 
A total of 23 crimes have been registered against her including 13 encounters and 10 other offences. After surrender, Varun Raja will receive Rs 5.5 lakh and Roshani Vijya Wachami will be given Rs 4.5 lakh as reward declared by the Central and Maharashtra Governments for rehabilitation. State Government has announced a reward of Rs 1.5 lakh as additional assistance to Maoist members who are husband and wife for their surrender. A total reward of Rs 11.5 lakh has been declared. This surrender was supervised by Sandip Patil, Special Inspector General of Police (ANO) Nagpur; Ankit Goyal, DIG, Gadchiroli Range; Ajay Kumar Sharma, DIG (Ops) CRPF; Neelotpal, SP Gadchiroli; Dao Enjirkan Kindo, Commandant 37 Bn. CRPF. Neelotpal, SP Gadchiroli, said that all necessary assistance would be provided to those willing to surrender and join the mainstream. He appealed to the active Maoists to renounce violence and adopt the path of peace and join the mainstream. Due to the intensified anti-Maoist operations, 27 hardcore Maoists have surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police since 2022 till date.
