Jabalpur Rail Division conducted a rigorous cleanliness drive as part of the ongoing ‘Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat’ initiative. It may be noted that the Indian Railways is conducting the ‘Swachhata Abhiyan 4.0’ from October 1 to 15. Under this campaign, various activities related to cleanliness are being organised across the nation.
Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Vivek Sheel under the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Dr Madhur Verma, the Jabalpur Division has undertaken a large-scale campaign to eliminate the use of single-use plastics at all railway stations. This includes railway tracks, station premises, and nearby areas.
At Jabalpur railway station, all stall operators and vendors were sensitised to avoid using single-use plastics and passengers were encouraged to participate in cleanliness
activities through a signature campaign. The commercial and health departments also actively engaged with staff to promote the reduction of single-use plastics and maintain cleanliness.
Station areas, platforms, concourse, circulating areas, foot-over bridges (FOB), railway tracks, and toilets were cleaned during the campaign. Passengers were requested to dispose of waste only in dustbins, stop using plastic items and contribute to keeping the stations clean.
This cleanliness drive was also extended to other stations in the region, including Pipariya, Gadarwara, Narsinghpur, Shridham, Madan Mahal, Katni, Maihar, Satna, Rewa, Damoh and Sagar. Railway authorities and employees appealed to
passengers to support the
initiative by avoiding the
use of single-use plastics and helping keep the stations
clean. The campaign
emphasises a collective effort to maintain cleanliness and eco-friendly practices within the railway network.
