Dr Madan Kapre invited as Advisor for Asia Pacific Thyroid Conference

Renowned ENT and Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr Madan Kapre was invited at recently held Asia Pacific Thyroid Conference at Bangkok in capacity as Advisor and faculty. Dr Kapre presented his work on ‘Management of Large Thyroid Goiters in Tribals of Melghat Region’. The patients are operated during annual Thyroid Surgical Workshop held for 2 days every year over last 30 years. Over 800 thyroid surgeries have been performed and 594 ENT surgeons trained. All the faculty and delegates at the Bangkok conference appreciated the surgeries performed in Melghat on large thyroids in recourse constrained setting of rural hospital. In addition, Dr Kapre was panelist in panel discussion on ‘Approach indeterminate thyroid nodules’.
 
Dr Madan Kapre also presented original research work of Neeti Clinics ‘IMPACT’, where correlation between clinical findings, radiological findings and fine needle aspiration cytology, can lead to formation of a nomogram where before surgery, it can be predicted quite accurately whether patient would require Hemi or Total Thyroidectomy. This study is very promising study in nature and more work needs to be done for it widely. It is interesting to note that Prof Lewis Kowalski of Brazil and Prof Akira Miyauchi of Japan, were greatly impressed with the study and extended their reciprocal participation in this study. The Asia Pacific Thyroid Conference saw participation from countries like Japan, China, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, India etc a total of 1,000 delegates from 55 countries. Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Asia Pacific Thyroid Society and Indian Society of Thyroid Surgeons. It is worth mentioning that Dr Madan Kapre is founder Advisor and executive member of Asia Pacific Thyroid Society as well as Founding President of Indian Society of Thyroid Surgeons.
